I must say, it's an exciting time. Finally, the headache-inducing arguments, political ads, and propaganda have hushed to make room for the real race. Most of America is on the edge of its seat, watching numbers and waiting to see who will finally get the crucial 270th vote.
I suppose I'm not like most people my age in that I voted for McCain. I'll be officially pulling for him as we wait for the final rush for the finish line, and I truly believe he could do our country some good. BUT...I will also say that I will be excited no matter who wins.
Either way, this election is history in the making. We may have our first black president...we may have our first female vice-president. Both are exciting...
The hope Obama gives the black community is certainly beautiful. I've seen several moved to tears to see what they perhaps never thought possible. And I certainly will be glad for that if Obama wins. These people have waited a long time for something that historic, and something that hope-giving.
Yet I really do believe--or at least hope--McCain could make a difference and that he would be good for our country. I still lean towards him...I'm holding out hope that he really is a freethinker with good ideas for this country. I know that anyone willing to reach across party lines is helpful.
So, though I'm officially pulling for McCain and will be happy if he wins, I will not be crestfallen if Obama wins either. I'm curious to see how he would handle things, because he does seem to have a different way of thinking. And, frankly, that would be refreshing, even if I didn't end up agreeing with his policies.
Morally, I would likely have some problems with Obama were he to win. The truth is, he is pro-choice, something I do not like, and he supports some other things I don't. McCain has values that I agree with, and I have hopes that he could perhaps help us move toward unborn infant rights. I know he hasn't really spoken about it and it doesn't seem to be his priority, but I have hope because of a bill that may pass in South Dakota. And I'm pretty sure Obama would oppose such movements, unfortunately.
Anyhow, I guess we'll see. God is definitely in control, and whoever wins God has granted to be in power. I know that my personal preferences are not that certain. I really like both candidates. And, I'm sorry to all my friends that I may be shocking, but I don't believe Obama is evil. I just don't see it. (And I've been watching Fox news...still don't see it!!) He might be young...I concede that. He might be inexperienced...perhaps, I don't know. He might even have bad judgement. But I really don't think he's evil. I don't think that it's our place to decide that--only God can see the heart. We should not be judging the man that way. If it's hard to see, remember Love. It always hopes. And I think Love wants to believe the best of someone if it can. Just remember that.
Anyway, sorry this can't be a little clearer. I'm kinda distracted by the elections because I want to watch them. The end is drawing near!
I'll hopefully be posting again when we know who our new president will be.
Until then...
