Lamb of God

You are washed in the precious blood of Christ. You may stare your old filth in the face and say, "Begone! You are not mine, for I am His, and he has washed me!"

To belong to Christ is like nothing else. For all at once we become aware of our smallness and of our immeasurable worth. We are the possession of the Most High. There is nothing greater...it should at once humble us and fill us with pride; at once awe us and fill us with joy.

Jesus Christ, God made man, the one who left his heavenly throne to walk the dirt and mud and dung-covered streets of humanity, the God who sweated blood for fallen man, the Carpenter who fashioned the world...the God who became one of us--THIS is our God! This is who has saved us! How can we not rejoice? Our very breath should be hallelujah.

The all-holy God did not stay above, unstained by the filth of humanity. He did not extend his scepter from above to grant mercy. No, his forgiveness was--is--so much more: he reached his right hand down into the mire that was drawing us down, descended into it, and lifted us out himself.

All our hope, our only hope, is in Jesus. He is all, or he is nothing. We will never overcome our failures on our own; we will never please him on our own power. But if we cling to Christ and his blood, he will enable us to love him; he will make us stronger, and he will be our life.

Christ is everything, and without him, we can do nothing. But in him, we can have life to the fullest, because his power and life know no limits. Our first and only hope is in turning to him and calling his name, for it is powerful. He is God-made-man; he is hope itself!
