Enough!

It's time we stopped gambling with human life as though it were so many poker chips. Enough excuses, enough beating around the bush. A child's life is not an instrument to gain power with; a woman's dignity is far above the empty squabble for the sake of power. This is human life we're talking about--human worth, human dignity, the treasure of personhood. Selfhood is far beyond selfish maneuvering.

So you think it's ok to play with someone else's life for your own benefit? You don't cringe that you are using it to gain recognition, respect--votes? You play with women's hearts and children's lives so that you might have your moment of influence--but influence for what? What? So that you will look well in the eyes of men? So that you can get the things you want? Tell me, what convenience, what compliment, is worth the life of a child? What vote or moment in office is worth the ruin of a woman's life? Do you truly believe you are making a fair exchange--with another's life?

It is enough. Can you not look into the eyes of every person you pass and see their selfhood, their unexchangeable, irreplaceable personhood? Women, girls are alone and hurting, needing support, and you see voters in them. Unborn children have come to life, have become little selves, whose eyes you will never look into because they will never take their first breath.

Can you hear the cries?

There are places to compromise, but human life is not one of them. This is not the place for political gain. It is the place to do the right thing. Do the right thing; see the people, and don't make a show of your choice. What you do for the sake of the good is what God favors, but if you prefer the admiration of men for false virtue, make your choice. It is all you will ever gain from it.
