Perspectives

Right now I've been reading Annne of Green Gables, as I realize I've already said in my last post. The more I read that set of books, the more I love it. There's really much more to them than meets the eye...it actually affects the way you see life. It's one of the healthiest, summeriest, "goodest" things I've read. Everyone knows that in the first book Anne is a kind of overly-romantic, starry-eyed little girl that is furious about her hair--and Gilbert Blythe--and has a knck for disasters. But as the books progress, Anne grows in a wonderful sort of way, as do the stories themselves. As she reaches womanhood, all her dreamy-eyed romance stays with her...but it is no longer that of the little freckle-faced girl who longed to be Cordelia with gorgeous locks and marry a dashing stranger. She learns to love the small things and make peace with the ordinary...by always seeing how beautiful those things are. And she gets to know so many neat people that it's really a wonderful character study, and, I think, makes you more open to seeing the like-ableness in people you might otherwise have given an impatient shrug. I may be over-praising this series of stories, but I certainly think it worthwile to read them, especially if you find yourself stuck in a semi-gloomy or even just bored outlook on life. It's good to realize sometimes how much light and beauty and wonderful people there are in the world...and sometimes (dare I say often?) hiding in the most unexpeced places, if we'd only look a little harder, persist a little longer.
Anyhow, that's all I have to say at present...
Until later!

Noelle-
It's good to hear from you! I hope y'all having a great time. You look like you are.
In the last part of your blog, you touched on what I've been struggling with. Lately I've been really tired, and there's a growing pile of homework dangling above my head. It's hard for me to find the little bright parts of life. Sometimes they hide, and I have to actively search for them. Usually they were right in front of me the entire time, but sometimes they've just been waiting for me to find them. Like your postcard waiting for me when I got home, or a message from Meg, or an invitation to celebrate "Talk like a Pirate Day" (which is tomorrow, incidentally, if you'd like to participate). There was even a finch the other day who took a stroll down Broadway with me. You're exactly right when you say beautiful things are all around us, we just have to look for them. You can find happiness in the oddest of places.

Hey Tori!
I'm so glad to hear from you! I'm having a great time, and I'm happy my postcard got through ok. I'm also really glad you identify with what I said about finding the bright spots in life...
By the way...do you happen to have Jenny's and Meg's addresses? I haven't been able to send them anything yet.
Hope all is well! I welcome emails or snail-mail letters, if you have the time.

Noelle-
I sent Meg & Jenny's info to your "ophoe" e-mail address. Will the return address you put on the back of the envelope work to send stuff to you? I wasn't sure. If you can, answer me at by e-mail at gythasowl10@aol.com
Yours,
Tori
